MindTree Consulting, the Bangalore-based IT services and consulting firm, is a new entrant in the BES survey this year. This overall rank is far more due to its employee rank of #5. Its HR rank has been pulled to the bottom of the Top 20 due to less than average performance over almost all parameters.
The impressive employee rank is reflected across time all of parameters. The company has done well for a first-time entrant in parameters including composite satisfaction, company culture, appraisal and people. More than 90% of employees say that the company's culture makes for a positive work environment and a good 97% believe that the company works in a professional manner.
People are a strong point in MindTree with most employees speaking of healthy relationships with their immediate managers and peers. More than 94% of employees strongly agreed with statements including 'my colleagues help me when I need them' and 'my relationship with my peers make for a better work environment'. That comfort level becomes the reason for 88% of the employees surveyed saying that they felt a strong sense of belonging with the company and 41% of the company's own employees choosing it as their preferred employer.
Salary and compensation seem to be an area of concern. Only 44% of employees felt they were paid enough for the work they were doing and a mere 32% felt they were paid on par with industry standards. The discontentment percolated to areas including hikes and perks also in spite of a 16% hike in salaries last year. This consequently lead to only 62% of employees saying they would not leave the company for a 20% hike in salary and an attrition rate of 12%, too close to industry average for comfort.
Another issue is of employee empowerment. Only 68% felt their opinion mattered in the company, and around 70% said they were encouraged to take risks in their work. This can be ascribed to the 57% growth in employee size that the company went through during the year.
