Starting as a captive of British Airways, WNS not only became independent of its parent in terms of ownership, but has successfully brought down the level of dependence on it for business. In 2003-04, the company grew 73% to reach a revenue figure of Rs 459 crore and is all set to become the first $100 million BPO company from India. Fairly focused in two verticals-airlines and travel and insurance-that contribute 95% to its
topline, WNS added a third-the high-value research and analytics to its portfolio. The year also marked
WNS' acquisition of ClaimsBPO, a healthcare insurance processing firm based in
Nasik, thus becoming the only Indian company to acquire a company for skill, not scale. The year also saw WNS winning prestigious accounts like WPP Group,
SAS, and Travelocity.
Other clients include former parent BA, Sabena-Brussels, Royal/Sun Alliance, and FedEx.
WNS' uniquness is not just restricted to its vision and focus, in terms of revenue break-up by geography, WNS is quite different from others, earning more than three-fourth of its revenue from UK and Europe. Though it has been trying to change that to have a healthy share come in from North America. It significantly increased its Pune operations and is starting its research operations in
Gurgaon.
