Long Live the Tape
Network storage vendors might have been predicting the demise of tapes for years, but the following graphs and statistics belie their pessimism, at least in the Asia Pacific in the near future.

| 4 mm drives and LTOs seem to
be the popular choice and are likely to remain so in the near future;
however, over time, there is a possibility that networked storage media
could score over tape drives even in the secondary storage domain. |

Asia/Pacific Branded Tape Drive, 2004-2009, 7/05 |
| Though
Australia and China would continue to contribute the largest to the
tape drive market in the near future, India is likely to do a fast
catch up; in fact, in terms of unit shipment, India has already
moved ahead of China and would remain #2 to only Australia in the
A-Pac region. |
