Texas Instruments: Pulling It Together
Texas is banking on the heavy investments made in resources last year, to propel it back to a double-digit growth

Employee headcount grew by 36% to 1,300

Wireless and analog were big focus areas for TI India

The story of TI India in FY 2005 is a story of consolidation and investments, both in people and resources. Physical facilities in India were moved to a common 7-acre campus and the employee headcount grew from 957 in FY 2004 to 1,300 people last year. As it grew in numbers, its biggest resource requirement-computing facility-also grew. Investments also went into tools. The focus areas for TI remain ASIC methodologies, wireless, making systems on chips, broadband, analog, embedded software and multimedia. Most of them did reasonably well last year, but wireless and analog were big focus areas. FY 2005, therefore, saw several products come out in wireless, broadband and analog. A growth of just 8% compared to the double-digit growth percent of the last three years looks surprising. But the heavy investments made last year in resources are expected to fuel this year's growth.
